ABSTRACT THE MAMMALIAN (INSECTIVORA, CHIROPTERA, RODENTIA) FAUNA OF YAMANLAR MOUNTAIN (İZMİR) KARAT AŞ, Ahmet MSc in Department of Biology Supervisor: Prof.Dr. Abidin Budak July 1996, iSO'pages The present study is based on a total of 86 specimens of insectivores, bats and rodents collected on Yamanlar Mountain and its vicinity in Izmir during the period from April 1995 to June 1996. Only adult and sometimes subadult specimens are evaluated. In the surveying area, a insectivoran (Erinaceus concolor), 7 chiropteran (Rhinolophus ferrumequinum, Rhinolophus hipposideros, Rhinolophus euryale, Myotis blythi, Myotis capaccinii, Pipistrellus pipistrellus, Miniopterus schreibersi) and 9 rodent species (Sciurus anomalus, Microtus guentheri, Spalax leucodon, Apodemus mystacinus, Apodemus sylvaticus, Rattus rattus, Rattus norvegicus, Mus domesticus and Mus macedoni'cus) are determined. A subspecies of Rattus rattus, R.r.rattus is recorded for the first time from the Western Anatolia, while Mus domesticus and Mus macedonicus are reported for the first time from the Agean Region. Similarly, Rhinolophus euryale, Myotis blythi, Myotis capaccinii, and Miniopterus schreibersi are first records Manisa Province and Erinaceus concolor, Pipistrellus pipistrellus, Rattus rattus from the present study area. The diagnostic characteristics, external and cranial measurements, fur colours, ecological comments, ectoparasites, subspecific states and breeding biology of the studied material are given. Additionally, the characteristics of bacula of some species are used for the first time in Turkey for the identification of the species. Keywords: Mammalia, Insectivora, Chiroptera, Rodentia, taxonomy, ectoparasites, habitat, Yamanlar Mountain, Turkey.
