Description
Summary:This article examines new dendrochronological dating results from three early modern buildings in Finland, Qwensel house in Turku, Lokalahti belfry and Keminmaa Old Church wooden vault. The article engages dendrochronological methodology, especially the reference chronology of spruce and the cross-dating of spruce and pine in northern Finland. The three case studies gave reliable dating to the construction year of all three buildings, which have been debated from early 20th century by several scholars. The trees for Qwensel house were felled 1735–1736, for Lokalahti belltower 1679–1681 and for Keminmaa Old Church wooden vault 1560–1651. These results explain the historical context of the circumstances of construction of each of these buildings. published version peerReviewed
