OBSERVACIONES CLÍNICAS POR LA INFECCIÓN DE BABESIA CANIS VOGELI EN UN PERRO (CANIS LUPUS FAMILIARIS) INOCULADO: REPORTE DE UN CASO

Se realizó la inoculación experimental de un perro mestizo hembra de 7 meses de edad el cual fue esplenectomizado 2 meses previo a la inoculación y evaluado mediante frotis sanguíneo y PCR para descartar la presencia de Babesia canis vogeli. La inoculación con B. c. vogeli se realizó por punción de la vena cefálica con 1,5 ml de criopreservado que provenía de un perro con una parasitemia de 1,66x107 eritrocitos infectados, diagnosticado por PCR como B. c. vogeli Se realizaron frotis diarios de sangre para determinar parasitemia y hematocrito, así como, medición de temperatura y observación de signos clínicos. El pico de parasitemia fue de 0,86 % al sexto día post-inoculación coincidiendo con el descenso del hematocrito y el aumento de la temperatura. La temperatura máxima fue 41 C el día 7 post-inoculación y un mínimo de hematocrito de 15 % el día 10 post-inoculación. El día 20 post-inoculación el canino presentó síntomas de depresión, fiebre, ligera pérdida del apetito, palidez de mucosas, vómito y hemoglobinuria. Se concluye que B. c. vogeli posee baja parasitemia e induce signos clínicos en su hospedador vertebrado el canino. Palabras Clave: Babesia canis vogeli, parasitemia, signos clínicos. ABSTRACT An experimental inoculation was carried out in a mixed breed female dog of 7 months of age that was splenectomized two months before the inoculation and it was evaluated by blood smears and PCR to remove the presence of Babesia canis vogeli. The inoculation with B. c. vogeli was performed by injecting in cephalic vein 1,5 ml of criopreservated blood of a dog with a parasitemia of 1,66x107 infected red blood cells that was diagnosed by PCR test as B. c. vogeli. Daily smears were carried out to determine the parasitemia and hematocrit, as well as, to take body temperature readings and clinical observations. The peak of parasitemia was 0,86 % at sixth day pots-inoculation, which coincided with hematocrit reduction and temperature increases. The maximum temperature was 41C at day seven post-inoculation and minimum hematocrit was 15 % at day 10 post-inoculation. The dog showed symptoms of deppressiom, fever, slight loss of appetite, pale mucuosas, vomit and hemoglobinuria at day 20 post-inoculation. It was concluded that B. c. vogeli has low parasitemia and induces clinical signs in its vertebrate host the dog. Key words: Babesia canis vogeli, parasitemia, clinical sings
