La toma de la Victoria y el problema habitacional a través del diario La Nación. Agenda estatal y movimiento de pobladores en Santiago, 1957

Este artículo observa mediante el diario oficialista La Nación uno de los problemas urbanos más complejos enfrentados durante el gobierno de Carlos Ibáñez (1952-1958): la falta de vivienda y la demanda social por conseguirlo, siendo el periódico un activo partícipe del debate. Se indaga en la ocupación de terrenos ocurrida en octubre de 1957 al sur de Santiago, originando la población “La Victoria”. La investigación se sitúa como una historia social urbana, utilizando al medio de prensa oficial como fuente prioritaria. Se concluye que la “toma” cuestionó la capacidad del Estado, convirtiéndose en la oportunidad para impulsar una nueva política de vivienda. Asimismo, posicionó una representación de los pobladores que distinguía entre aquellos apegados a la legalidad y quienes tomaban acciones directas. This article observes through the official newspaper La Nación one of the most complex urban problems faced during the government of Carlos Ibáñez (1952-1958): the lack of housing and the social demand to get it. The newspaper being an active participant in the low-income housing debate. The article researche the occupation of land that occurred in October 1957 south of Santiago, originating the población “La Victoria”. The research is situated as an urban social history, using the official media as a priority source. It is concluded that the La Victoria land seizure questioned the capacity of the State, becoming the opportunity to promote a new housing policy. Likewise, it positioned a representation of the inhabitants that distinguished between those respected the law and those who took direct action.
