The comic format has continued to evolve as a visual narrative and is currently in use as an online mass media communication tool more popularly known as a ‘webtoon’. In acknowledgement of the fourth International Polar Year (IPY) where the importance of polar science education, outreach and communication with the public was highlighted, the following project researches the success of comics in education and as a science communication tool. The research of comics is carried out with a view to applying the same knowledge and understanding into developing and producing a webtoon intended for outreach and communicating science in Antarctica to the general public globally.
