This report addresses the future direction of New Zealand policy on tourism in Antarctica and in particular the Ross Sea region. It highlights a number of policy options and makes recommendations on favoured options. An Analysis of the Future of Antarctic Tourism (1999) prepared by the author and others as part of the University of Canterbury inaugural Certificate in Antarctic Studies end Tim Higham's Antarctica New Zealand internal discussion document, Choices in relation to private sector activity in Antarctica (1999). This report does not intend to repeat their findings except where necessary to provide relevant context.
