In 1903 when Knud Rasmussen, a member of Mylius-Erichsen's "Danish Litterary Expedition", visited the Polar Eskimos for the first time, he interviewed a man called Merqusâq, one of the last of a group of Baffin Island Inuit who had migrated north and crossed to Greenland half a century previously.
