This map was prepared by the U.S. Coast Survey as one in the series of numbered coast charts depicting the Atlantic coast of the United States and is the 1899 edition, with corrections to 1902, issued by Superintendent Henry Smith Pritchett (1857-1939) of a map first published in 1888. The triangulation was executed by C. P. Bolles, A. S. Wadsworth, and D. B. Wainwright between 1851 and 1886; topography by John Mechan, C. P. Bolles, and Charles T. Iardella between 1851 and 1878; and hydrography by T. A. Jenkins, J. P. Bankhead, J. F. Moser, F. A. Wilner, and W. Irving Vinal between 1851 and 1883. Astronomical and magnetic observations were made by Alexander Dallas Bache, G. W. Dean, L. F. Pourtales, C. P. Bolles, E. Goodfellow, D. B. Wainwright, and J. B. Baylor between 1854 and 1886. Corrections to June 1901 were made from surveys by the U.S. Army, Corps of Engineers. The map portrays the coastline of North Carolina from Masonboro Inlet to Shallotte Inlet and the Cape Fear River from its mouth to Wilmington. Topographical features, roads, locations of structures, and other landmarks are shown. Soundings are given, and the depth of the water is also indicated by shading. Information relating to the soundings, aids to navigation, tides, and other aspects of the map is found in the upper left. Chart no. 150 was later replaced by and is nearly identical to a map entitled United States - East Coast North Carolina Old Topsail Inlet to Shallotte Inlet including Cape Fear. This map was formerly classified as M.C. 57-D.
