Description
Summary:This essay compares the representation of Inuit people and culture in five plays by non-Inuit, southern playwrights and three plays by Inuit in an effort to trace the construction of identity and the gaze in the context of writing for the theatre. Considered in chronological sequence, these eight plays demonstrate some of the important shifts in representation and ideological investment that occurred between 1967 and 1986.
