This extend Venezuelan sea, with 333 islands, islets and cays and its soils and subsoils, is a formidable natural reserve of raw material that deserves actions for its security and development, based in the new sea rights. Coexist in the Carib, States with a great cultural variety («Creole» culture) and different grades of sovereignty exercise. Carib near Venezuela is characterized by its heterogeneity and diversity, that sets up a challenge to the geography that most be focused by a geopolitical and a geostrategical point of view. Venezuela tiene un frente marítimo que abarca el mar Caribe y el océano Atlántico. Luego de México, es el país caribeño con mayor extensión marítima más allá del territorio continental. Son 2.954 kms. de línea costera y 1.050 Kms² insulares, unos 762.000 Kms² de Zona Económica Exclusiva y Plataforma Continental. Ese extenso mar de Venezuela con 333 islas, cayos e islotes, conjuntamente con los suelos y subsuelos constituye un formidable reservorio natural de materias primas que ameritan acciones para su seguridad y desarrollo, basadas en el nuevo derecho del mar. Coexisten en el Caribe Estados con una gran variedad étnico cultural (que ha dado lugar a la cultura «creole») y diferentes grados de ejercicio de soberanía. Lo que caracteriza el Caribe próximo a Venezuela, es la diversidad y la heterogeneidad. Ello plantea un desafío de la geografía que debe enfocarse desde el punto devista geopolítico y geoestratégico.
