The countries having either a Latin or Cyrillic based language hampering the communication between people, a need to prepare the underlying literature review was felt a first step, in order to open Russian knowledge sources to the international community. This review presents- information from sources of written literature in different fields, as been prepared by numerous authors based at many institutions in the Russian Federation and especially the Komi Republic. The Pechora river basin set the borders for this review, and given the enormous surface area this task was not an easy one. The idea was to have an overview of existing sources and, maybe as important as this, to obtain a guiding reader for each of the fields distinguished, written by one of the leading Russian experts.
