International audience The 1959 Antarctic treaty is usually regarded as an objective treaty which means creating rights and imposing obligations to third States. According to a classic point of view, its opposability to third States could be explained by either collective perspective, or individual perspective, or normative perspective. Rejecting this method, the article puts forward a cumulative approach based on a mix of normative, individual and collective perspectives. The result is a redefinition of objective treaty as a convention that can be indirectly enforced against third States by States parties which, through lawful actions, seek to convince them to agree not to jeopardize conventional regime. Le traité sur l'Antarctique conclu en 1959 est généralement considéré comme un traité objectif, c'est-à-dire comme créant des droits et imposant des obligations aux États tiers. Selon une conception classique, son opposabilité aux tiers s'expliquerait par une logique soit collégiale, soit individuelle, soit normative. Rejetant cette méthode, l'article propose une nouvelle approche fondée sur un cumul des logiques normative, individuelle et collégiale. Il en résulte une redéfinition du traité objectif en tant que convention indirectement opposable aux États tiers par le truchement des États parties qui, par des actions licites, cherchent à convaincre les États tiers d'accepter de ne pas entreprendre d'actions compromettant le régime conventionnel.
