Its anatomical conformationconsists of the union of bony, cartilaginous, ligamentous, vascular and muscularstructures that allow to grant a specific functionality in its extensor, flexorand slight rotation capacity. Therefore, the objective of the following studywas to perform a morphological description of the macroscopic anatomicalstructures, which participate in the conformation of the knee joint and howthey can allow a particular biomechanical functionality. For this, dissections of10 knees of male dogs were carried out in the veterinary anatomy laboratoryof the Universidad Santo Tomas, Puerto Montt. The results indicate detailedcharacteristics of the canine knee morphology and how each of them allowsto understand and explain the biomechanical capacity of this joint. Las articulaciones sinoviales o también conocidas como diartroideas secaracterizan por presentar gran movilidad, estar constituidas por unacápsula articular de protección, la que a su vez internamente permite laformación de una cavidad, donde es posible observar el líquido sinovial,responsable de proveer elementos nutricios; producir la depuración de losdesechos celulares; realizar una amortiguación entre las caras articularesy lubricar las superficies articulares.
