Summary: | The present experimental research work with three groups: experimental group, positive control group and negative control group, with pre- and post-test, was carried out with the purpose of determining the effect of Moringa oleifera on induced hyperglycemia in Rattus rattus var. albinus. The sample consisted of 18 specimens of Rattus rattus var. albinus, randomly distributed in 3 groups: Experimental group (G1): with induced hyperglycemia with a single dose of aloxane 100 mg/Kg of weight via intraperitoneal and treated with hydroethanolic extract of leaves of |Moringa oleifera to 400 mg/kg of weight orally; Positive control group (G2): with induction to hyperglycemia with single dose of aloxane; and negative control group (G3) without induction to hyperglycemia and treated with saline solution. The experimental groups G1 and G2 after treatment with aloxane presented average glycemias of 317.0±140.0 mg/dl and 267.7±171.2 mg/dl respectively, whereas at 8h the group G1 reached a glycemia of 243.5±109.0 mg/dl post treatment with Moringa oleifera, while the group G2, without treatment, the glycemia was 277.7±149.1 mg/dl. The G3 had an average basal glycemia of 76.0±1.8 mg/dl, culminating at 8 h in 60.3±3.3 mg/dl. The variations of the glycemias between groups G1 and G2 in the 8 h was -74,2± 39,9 mg/dl and 10±29,3; and they differed significantly (p<0,009) through the Mann – Whitney U test. It was concluded that the hydroethanolic extract of Moringa oleifera significantly reduces the induced hyperglycemia in Rattus rattus var. albinus. |
