Some precipitation patterns that affect agricultural practices in the plains of Buenos Aires (Argentina)

The Buenos Aires plain in central-east Argentina generates economic resources based on agriculture, which is strongly influenced by precipitation. In this work factors of different rainfall interannual variability have been studied using monthly precipitation in 22 stations for the period 1950-2012....

In this work factors of different rainfall interannual variability have been studied using monthly precipitation in 22 stations for the period 1950-2012. They showed that it depends heavily on the area and the season. El Niño, El Niño Modoki, the positive phase of the Indian Ocean Dipole and the shift to the south of the South Atlantic High are related to an increase of spring precipitation in central Buenos Aires. The weakening of westerlies associated with the negative phase of the Antarctic Oscillation and the weakening of the South Atlantic High favor the autumn precipitation in the east of the province. The positive phase of the Antarctic Oscillation and the intensification of the South Atlantic High is are associated with increased the increased winter precipitation in central and northwestern Buenos Aires. © 2018 Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
