Description
Summary:This study aimed to analyze trade barriers and their effect on the Paraná agricultural exports from 2000 to 2011. The methodology was added to the descriptive analysis the development of a gravity model with panel data technique. It can be seen that the Paraná agriculture faces several non-tariff barriers (BNT), and the most applied are sanitary and phytosanitary, followed by techniques. Agricultural subsidies vary widely, are applied to a greater extent by Norway and Iceland, and less by New Zealand. In the year immediately following the international crisis of 2008, it was found an increase in agricultural subsidies and the incidence of more BNT. In addition, it was found that the 1% increase in tariff barriers implies a 3.7% reduction in agricultural exports in Paraná, that is, there is an inverse relationship. Therefore, trade liberalization in tariff terms would have a positive and significant reflection for the Paranaense agricultural insertion in foreign markets.
