Hecla. Origin: Written by Charles Palmer, Midshipman, at Winter Harbour, New Georgia. Produced and circulated in Mss. by members of the Parry Expedition while they were at their winter quarters in the Arctic, and published, in printed form, after the expedition's return to London under the title: North Georgia gazette, and winter chronicle. Winter Harbour is on what is now called Melville Island in the Northwest Territories. Binding: 3 gatherings are loose, each bound with a different cord: gathering 1 (nos. 1-11) is bound with a brown cord, gathering 2 (nos. 12-17) with a white cord, gathering 3 (nos. 18-21) with a gold cord. Script: 19th century English document hand. Layout: Written in two columns, frame-ruled in ink, with headings and dates for each numbered entry. Collation: Paper; 1²⁸(-1) 2¹⁶ 3¹⁰. Title from caption at head of leaf 3 recto. Ms. gatherings. fol. 3r-53r: A copy of the Winter chronicle, or, New Georgia Gazette, Monday 1st November 1819-March 18th 1820. fol. 2r and 53v contain a letter from Charles Palmer, Midshipman on the H.M.S.
