The goal was to increase the low representation of women in their parliaments and to highlight women issues on the political agenda. The essay shows that the most important reason behind the will to form a party, was a new issue being disregarded by existing parties, although there is a considerable interest concerning the issue amongst society. While a party was formed on Iceland the Swedish equivalence did not occur. Even though only one party was formed, both movements achieved the same results. This essay, that investigates the women's party formation and the motives behind it, is analysed from a rational choice perspective. Besides finding the underlying reasons leading to the various results, the purpose is to show that the existing theory on left-libertarian parties carry weaknesses which can be overcome by a change in methodology. Therefore this essay not only has adapted a different basic theory but also a different methodology, in an analytical narrative.
