Summary: | All Points North is the record of a unique translation workshop which took place in Shetland in spring 2005, with poems and translations by Christine De Luca (Shetland), Robert Alan Jamieson (Shetland), Lise Sinclair (Fair Isle), Andres Ehin (Estonia), Riina Katajavuori (Finland), A•alsteinn Ásberg Sigur•sson (Iceland), Thor Sørheim (Norway), Amanda Aizpuriete (Latvia). The original event involved literature Across Forntiers, Scottish Arts Council, Culture 2000 and Norden (Nordic Culture Fund). This book is a record of that event. At the workshop, ‘Modern Shetlandic’, as practiced by three very different writers from different parts of the island group, would be brought head-to-head with five northern languages, and in the intimate laboratory that is translation, would be examined, even tested. All Points North will be entered for the Howard Smith Design Awards. |
