But the deterioration after the 1930s caused alarming failures of reforestation, and consequently more conservative silvicultural directions were issued. In the 1970s prospect is again more optimistic; because of the warm summers and a good seed crop was obtained in 1973, new plantings have been successful, and even in the older plantations the surviving trees have recovered.
