L’auteur revient sur cette expérience et sur les rêves qui ont précédé l’événement lorsqu’elle se trouvait sur son terrain chez les Even de la région d’Icha au Kamtchatka. En opérant un va-et-vient entre son premier terrain chez les Gwich’in d’Alaska et le présent terrain au Kamtchatka, elle pose la question de la distance critique de l’anthropologue et des relations énigmatiques qui la lient à ceux dont elle partage les existences.
