Over the past 30 years, an indigenous international movement has developed from the ‘first nations’ of the two Americas, and has gradually mobilised the other indigenous peoples of the world. This internationalisation of indigenous peoples owes a lot to the phenomenon of globalisation, understood by Giddens (1990) as ‘the infusion of global social relations’. Here, I would like to analyse the concept of autochthonics by asking me whether it falls within the ambit of the merchandise.
