The American area was possibly the continent that was most strongly transformed during the first globalisation. After the thawing of the Bering Strait, contact between the Strait of Bering and the rest of the balloon was made through the large ocean masses surrounding it. To a long extent, the transatlantic and transpeaceful navigation systems that shaped and promoted the Spanish empire – the Carrera de Indias and Galeón de Manila respectively – catalysed the first balloon.
