Le diagnostic archéologique, réalisé dans le cadre d’un projet de lotissement, a porté sur la totalité de l’emprise (60 000 m2) du terrain, localisé sur les hauteurs de Petit-Bourg, au lieu-dit Vernou, à 220 m d’altitude, de part et d’autre d’une ravine. La limite occidentale de l’emprise est en bordure d’un petit plateau qui domine plus à l’ouest la Grande Rivière à Goyaves. Depuis le plateau, le terrain est en pente plus ou moins accentuée vers la Ravine Justin. Au total, 97 tranchées ont é.
