Le site de Morel se trouve sur la côte atlantique de la Grande-Terre. La plage se situe à un peu plus d’1 km à l’est de la ville actuelle du Moule et de la grande rivière d’Audoin. Le gisement de Morel est jusqu’ici le gisement précolombien le plus connu de Guadeloupe. Repéré depuis le début du xixe s., il a été sondé et fouillé par Edgar Clerc dans les années 1960 et au début des années 1970 (Clerc 1964, 1968, 1970).
