L’isolat singulier, quasi paratopique, que décrit Le pays des fourrures peut se lire comme une tentative de phalanstère « forcé », où sciences et foi vont se conjuguer pour sauver les rescapés d’une catastrophe épouvantable, aux confins inexplorés du Grand Nord canadien. Livrés à eux-mêmes sur une île de glace qui fond en dérivant, les Robinsons des neiges cohabitent avec un ours polaire, vivent de grandes histoire d’amitié… et communient avec la transcendance, puisque chacun se prépare à la mort tout en réconfortant tous les autres !
