A Bothocude lingüstic family (borum) of the macro-jê trunk (Rodrigues, 1972) is one of the least well-known in Brazil. Although it has occupied an enormous geographical area from the Pardo River in Bahia to the Doce River, Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo, and although its peoples have been in contact with colonisers since the 16th century, none of its languages or dialects have been satisfactorily documented.
