تعزف النساء في نيجيريا عن إبلاغ الشرطة بحالات العنف المنزلي التي يتعرضن لها. تتناول هذه الدراسة حجم العنف المنزلي في نيجيريا، وترصد مستويات الأشخاص الخاضعين للدراسة من حيث التعليم والثقافة والدين والتقاليد في إطار الحالات المسكوت عنها للعنف المنزلي في مجتمعين متباينين في نيجيريا. وتشير الدراسة إلى إمكانية الحد من مستوى العنف المنزلي إذا توفر للنساء الدعم الاجتماعي الذي يحثهم على إبلاغ الشرطة بحوادث العنف المنزلي. استخدمت هذه الدراسة الأسلوب الكمي في جمع البيانات، وشملت نساء من جزيرة فكتوريا ولاجوس وأكيور ودولة أوندو. وجرى تحليل 462 استبانة، 284 منها من جزيرة فكتوريا، و 178 من أكيور. أظهرت النتائج أن ثقافة وسلوكيات الشرطة، فضلاً عن غياب الدعم الاجتماعي هي عوامل تسهم في عدم رغبة النساء في الإبلاغ عن حالات العنف المنزلي. وتختم هذه الدراسة بضرورة تثقيف ضباط الشرطة وتأهيلهم للتعامل مع حالات العنف المنزلي بالطريقة المناسبة تعزف Women in Nigeria reported cases of domestic violence to the police. This study examines the magnitude of domestic violence in Nigeria, and monitors the levels of people studied in terms of education, culture, religion and tradition in the context of the silenced cases of domestic violence in two different communities in Nigeria. The study suggests that the level of domestic violence can be reduced if women are provided with social support that urges them to report incidents of domestic violence to the police. This study used quantitative data collection and included women from Victoria Island, Lagos, Akiur and the State of Ondo. Of these, 462 were analysed, 284 from Victoria Island and 178 from Aquior. The results showed that police culture and behaviour, as well as lack of social support, contribute to women ' s unwillingness to report cases of domestic violence. This study concludes with the need to educate and equip police officers to deal with cases of domestic violence in an appropriate manner.
