Movimiento geostrófico en el Pacífico colombiano

Seis cruceros oceanográficos realizados entre 1975 y 1986 en el Pacífico colombiano fueron analizados y utilizados para describir la circulación geostrófica del área; el modelo geostrófico fue calculado con respecto a la superficie de –250 db. de acuerdo con el modelo sugerido por Helland-Hansen y Sandström. Las corrientes geostróficas en superficie, ponen de manifiesto un meandro de la Corriente de Colombia de carácter casi permanente que varía de intensidad, al norte de latitud 6º N y se advierte la presencia de una corriente costera en el Chocó, que fluye hacia el sur. Durante eventos de ENSO, la respuesta de la topografía dinámica mostró vórtices y meandros en la superficie asociados a un aumento del nivel esférico y la llegada de aguas venidas del oeste que alteraron la circulación normal del área de estudio. En el análisis de la distribución termohalina se encontró que la Corriente de Colombia trasporta Agua Ecuatorial Subsuperficial y Agua Ecuatorial Central alternadamente y se advirtió la presencia de Agua Intermedia Antártica y Agua Profunda del Pacífico. Seis oceanographic cruises carried out between 1975 and 1986 in the Colombian Pacific were analysed and used to describe the geostrophic circulation of the area; the geostronic model was calculated for the area of -250 db according to the model suggested by Helland-Hansen and Sandström. The geothermal currents on the surface show an almost permanent meander of the Curente de Colombia that varies in intensity to the north of latitude 6° N and notes the presence of a coastal stream in Chocó, flowing southwards. During ENSO events, the response of the dynamic topography showed vórtices and meanders on the surface associated with an increase in the spherical level and the arrival of waters from the west that altered the normal circulation of the study area.
