Summary: | Comparing filmic writing of history and academic writing about the past provides insight into the "historical movie" genre through the case study of Hochelaga, Land of Souls (François Girard, 2017). In this movie the history of Montreal is revisited through a series of flash-forwards and flashbacks between 1267, 1535, 1687, 1837, 2011, and 2017, staging First Nations, French- and English-speaking communities. |
