Description
Summary:Iranian and Indian εὐδαιμονία as seen by Greek ethnographers The comparative examination of Greek textual sources from the Classical and Hellenistic periods concerning happiness, from the perspective of the subjects of Achaemenid kings as well as that of the sages of Northwestern Indian territories, shows that Greek ethnographers, while they used the common term of εὐδαιμονία to express the notions of the Iranian šiyāti and the Indian ānanda, nevertheless managed to grasp it by using differentiated approached.
