International audience Sovietisation in the Russian Far North was a long and complicate process, which started later than sovietisation in the rest of the country. The Soviet power was not ready to implement its full policy in regions that were almost completely unknown, and were inhabited by scattered indigenous communities without much contact with the Russian world. One of the ways to domesticate this alien environment was to integrate these populations with the rest of Russia, mostly through education. The main tool used was the so-called cultural bases: there were 15 centres all over the Russian North, with schools, medical and vet assistance, propaganda corners, different kinds of advise offices. This article concentrates on this form and shows how the cultural bases' policy became intolerable for the indigenous groups and led to resolute resistance. La soviétisation dans le Grand Nord russe a été un processus long et douloureux, qui a commencé plus tard que la soviétisation dans le reste du pays. Le pouvoir soviétique n'était pas prêt à mettre en oeuvre sa politique dans des régions qu'il ignorait presque entièrement et qui étaient habités par des communautés autochtones éparses sans grand contact avec le monde russe. L'une des manières d'apprivoiser cet environnement inconnu était d'intégrer ses populations avec le reste du pays, surtout par l'intermédiaire de l'éducation. L'outil principal de cette politique était l'institution nommée "bases culturelles": elles étaient quinze dans l'ensemble de la Russie du Nord, et comportaient des écoles, des points d'assistance médicale et vétérinaire, des coins de propagande et des bureaux de conseil divers. Cet article se concentre sur cette forme et montre comment la politique des bases culturelles a fini par devenir insupportable pour les groupes autochtones et a conduit à une résistance résolue.
