`pb Depuis les années 1950, Jean Malaurie poursuit une œuvre multiforme qui a marqué notre époque. Le jeune géomorphologue, qui fut le premier homme à parvenir au pôle géomagnétique nord en traîneau à chiens et partagea la vie primitive des Inuit, s'est fait, au contact de ce peuple légendaire, le témoin d'une vie millénaire bouleversée brutalement par l'implantation de la base nucléaire de Thulé. De géographe il est devenu ethno-historien, parcourant durant quarante ans l'Arctique du Groenland à la Sibérie et brossant une fresque pleine d'empathie d'une civilisation immémoriale. Dans un même geste, il fondait en 1955 « Terre Humaine », qui compte aujourd'hui plus d'une centaine de titres, prestigieuse collection de témoignages et de résistance prolongeant son combat en faveur de la défense des minorités, la réhabilitation des peuples premiers et de la culture populaire. Elle contribue ainsi à renouveler notre regard sur ces sociétés.`/pb 'pb Since the 1950s, Jean MALAURIE has been pursuing a multifaceted work that marked our time. The young geomorphologist, who was the first man to reach the northern geomagnetic pole in dog tray and shared the primitive life of the Inuit, witnessed, in contact with this legendary people, a millennial life abruptly transformed by the establishment of the Thule nuclear base. From geograph, he became ethno-historian, spanning the Greenland Arctic for forty years into Siberia and embracing a freshque with empathy of immemorial civilisation. In the same gesture, in 1955 he founded ‘Terre Humaine’, which now has more than a hundred titles, a prestigious collection of testimonies and resistance, continuing his struggle for the defence of minorities, the rehabilitation of the first peoples and popular culture.
