Les Métis forment au Canada un groupe national distinct, reconnu comme tel au sein de l’ensemble aborigène depuis 1982. Leur mémoire est vivace leur histoire, longtemps, le fut beaucoup moins : Marcel Giraud avait en 1945 montré la voie dans un travail de grande ampleur aujourd’hui dépassé mais il fallut attendre la fin des années 1970 pour qu’un renouveau se fasse sentir, avec les travaux de Jacqueline Peterson, Jennifer Brown ou Sylvia Van Kirk, à la rencontre du métissage massif qui se p. the Métis in Canada form a separate national group, recognised as such within the aboriginal group since 1982. Their memory is alive; their history, for a long time, was much less: Marcel Giraud had taken the lead in today’s large-scale work in 1945, but the work of Jacqueline Peterson, Jennifer Brown or Sylvia Van Kirk failed to see a revival until the end of the 1970s.
