Marginality in Sami Tchak, transversality and rewriting

This thesis analyzes the epistemological and aesthetic dimensions of marginality in the romantic and sociological works by Sami Tchak. It emphasises the transversality that links the two areas of knowledge, by highlighting rewriting as a way of making language. By placing the human condition as the basic tension of the story, the Togolese writer explores the fate of these “tiny lives”, of these “lives without horizon” to refer to the terminology used in Place des Fêtes. Through the implementation of a transcultural poetics coupled with a transtextual poetics, Sami Tchak describes the complexities of otherness and the paradigms of immigration writing. If the writers of the New Generation to which he belongs hastily proclaimed a stylistic and ideological revolution, he, on the contrary, claims his intellectual lineage with his elders, and claims to have been inspired by their works. By creating his own voice/way, he completes his vision of the world with a fascinating humility. Cette thèse analyse les dimensions épistémologiques et esthétiques de la marginalité dans les productions romanesques et sociologiques de Sami Tchak. Elle met en perspective la transversalité qui relie les deux domaines de savoirs, en mettant en exergue la réécriture comme mode d’une fabrication de la langue. En plaçant la condition humaine comme tension fondamentale du récit, l’écrivain Togolais explore le destin de ces « vies minuscules », de ces « vies sans horizon » selon la terminologie reprise dans Place des Fêtes. À travers la mise en œuvre d’une poétique transculturelle doublée d’une poétique transtextuelle, Sami Tchak décrit les complexités de l’altérité et les paradigmes de l’écriture de l’immigration. Si les écrivains de la Nouvelle génération à laquelle il appartient proclament hâtivement une révolution stylistique et idéologique, lui, au contraire, revendique sa filiation intellectuelle avec ses aînés, et affirme s’être nourri de leurs œuvres.
