Le projet « Archéologie des petites îles de la Martinique », après l’Îlet Oscar en 2006 puis l’Îlet Madame en 2016, s’est intéressé en 2013 à l’Îlet Chancel, dépendant de la commune du Robert. D’une longueur de 2 km, l’Îlet Chancel est le plus grand de la Martinique. Le programme de prospection archéologique de l’îlet Chancel a été conduit en juillet-août 2013.
