At the same time, they seek to integrate cultural and identity markers into the development of their communities. This text explores the themes of representation of the territory, Innu identity, as well as the spatial organization of camps on the land. The research called upon a dozen Innu respondents and the surveys of twenty-six camps. How can the ancestral territory, as represented and inhabited by the Innu, inspire the development of their communities? Despite a transition from tent to cabin, several identity traits persist in the way the territory is occupied and lived. For many, the territory remains the symbol of an ideal intimately linked to the practice of hunting and fishing activities. The author discusses how different ways of settling on the territory, in the past and today, are linked to contemporary Innu ways of living and may inform strategies “giving shape” to culturally adapted living environments. À une époque où les membres des Premières Nations vivent la majeure partie de l’année dans des réserves et en milieux urbains, les communautés autochtones cherchent à intégrer des repères culturels et identitaires à leurs aménagements. Ce texte explore les thèmes de la représentation du territoire, de l’identité innue, ainsi que de l’organisation spatiale des campements. La recherche a fait appel à une dizaine de répondants innus et aux relevés de vingt-six campements. Comment le territoire ancestral, dans les façons dont les Innus se le représentent et l’habitent, peut-il inspirer l’aménagement des communautés innues ? Malgré une transition de la tente au chalet, plusieurs traits identitaires persistent dans la manière d’occuper et de vivre le territoire. Symbole d’idéal pour plusieurs, le territoire demeure intimement lié à la pratique des activités de chasse et de pêche.
