Description
Summary:The ethnography of the Yakuts, breeders of horses and cows in North-eastern Siberia, shows a complex system of comparison between humans and animals. This is largely based on a connection with the horse. This animal provides a figure that cross-cuts numerous categories, and thus serves as an identifier for different ages and genders. The horse can be said to exist at the border between the wild and domestic spheres, as can be seen clearly in an examination of the shaman's special relationship with animals of the taiga.
