Opinnäytetyössä tutkittiin omatoimisen vaellusmatkan suunnittelua ja toteuttamista. Työssä käydään läpi myös vaeltamisen elämyksellisyyttä, sekä pohditaan toteutetun vaelluksen onnistumista. Tämän työn tuloksena järjestetty ryhmävaellus toteutettiin neljän hengen ryhmällä ja kohteeksi valittiin Suomen korkein piste, Halti-tunturin huippu. Matkan suunnittelusta ja toteuttamisesta vastasivat tämän työn tekijät. Matkalta kerättiin tutkimusaineistoa oman havainnoinnin kautta, sekä ryhmälle tehdyillä kyselyillä. Tutkimusmenetelmä oli havainnoiva kvalitatiivinen tutkimus. Teorioina työssä käytettiin vaeltamisen-, matkanjärjestämisen- ja elämyksellisyyden teorioita. Matka toteutettiin 8.9. - 16.9.2013. Matka onnistui erittäin hyvin ja palautteen mukaan kaikki mukana olleet olivat vaellukseen erittäin tyytyväisiä. Matkan toteutuksessa ei syntynyt ongelmia juuri ollenkaan ja kaikki elämyksellisyyden elementit tuli täytetyksi matkan aikana. Vaellus onnistui täydellisesti myös varusteiden, reitin, päivämatkojen, sekä ruokahuollon puolesta. Vaellusmatkan järjestäminen oli haastava ja pitkä projekti. Suunnittelu jouduttiin tekemään todella huolella ja itse vaelluksen toteutus oli vaativa ja haasteellinen koko ryhmälle. Matkasta selvittiin kuitenkin erinomaisesti ja vaellus oli koko ryhmälle ikimuistoinen elämys. The topic of this thesis was to organize and execute an independent hiking trip. The thesis will also study the experience of hiking and how well the hiking trip was organized. As a result of this thesis a group hike of four people was organized. The destination of this hike was the highest point of Finland, the summit of the Halti arctic hill. The planning and implementation was done by the writers of this thesis. The research material was collected by writing the travel diaries and by creating inquiry to members of the group. The data was analyzed using qualitative content analysis. The theories used in this thesis were hiking-, group traveling- and experiences theories. The hike was organized between 8th of September to 16th of September. The hike was a great success and according to feedback all the members of the group were really satisfied to the hike. There were almost no problems during the hike and all the elements of experience were full filled during the trip. The plans considering equipments, route, day trips and food also succeeded perfectly. Organizing a hiking trip was challenging and long project. The planning had to be done very carefully and the hike itself seemed to be very challenging for whole group. After all, the hike succeeded excellently and it was the unforgettable experience for the whole group.
