| Summary: | Opinnäytetyössäni tutkin helmikuun 2011 alussa käyttöönotetun ATVU-uudistuksen (Alueellisten tv-uutisten uudistus) tuomia muutoksia työharjoittelupaikkaani Yle Ouluun ja sen tuottamiin Pohjois-Suomen uutisiin. Samalla tutkin myös, miten uu-distus on otettu käyttöön Yle Oulun toimituksessa. Toiminnallisen opinnäytetyöni tutkimustulokset rakentuvat neliosaiselle tietoperus-talle: lähdekirjallisuudelle, etnografiselle osallistuvalle havainnoinnille, omien uutis-juttujen tekemällä tutkimiselle ja puolittain strukturoiduille teemahaastatteluille. Työharjoittelussa ollessani näin, miten toimittajat työskentelivät ja pystyn vertaamaan heidän toimintatapojaan ATVUn tavoitteisiin. Haastattelemieni Pohjois-Suomen uutisten toimittajien kommenttien avulla taas saan tietoa heidän omista mielipiteistään ja kokemuksistaan ATVUn toteutumisesta Yle Oulussa. Lähdekirjallisuudella syvennän ja taustoitan aihetta sekä sen termistöä. Pohdin ATVUa myös työ-harjoittelussa tekemieni työnäytteiden ja niiden toteutustapojen pohjalta. ATVU 2011-uudistuksen konsepti ei ainoastaan uudista uutisstudion ilmettä, vaan se pureutuu syvemmälle ja tarttuu toimittajien toimintatapoihin. Uusia ohjeita on annettu muun muassa kuvaukseen, äänten käyttöön uutisjutuissa, sähkeiden rakenteeseen, haastatteluihin ja juontajien esiintymiseen. Ylen pääkonttorilla Pasilassa seurataan, toteuttaako Yle Oulun toimitus uudistuksen elementtejä tarpeeksi Pohjois-Suomen uutislähetyksissä. Opinnäytetyössäni selviää, ettei ATVU-uudistusta ole otettu käyttöön Yle Oulussa täydellä teholla. Monet uudistuksen elementeistä koetaan turhiksi tai uutisten ym-märrettävyyttä vaikeuttaviksi. Osaa uusista elementeistä on kokeiltu, mutta ne ovat jääneet taka-alalle alkuinnostuksen jälkeen. Monia uusia vaatimuksia ei enää edes muisteta, osalle haastateltavista ne tulivat jopa aivan uusina. Täysin epäonnistuneeksi ATVU – uudistusta ei kuitenkaan Pohjois-Suomen uutisissa voi sanoa. Useita ele-menttejä on kokeiltu ja niiden parhaat puolet on otettu talteen. ATVU-uudistuksen myönnetään pyrkivän parempaan uutisilmaisuun ja yritystä sen toteuttamiseen on. Mielestäni suurimmat vaikeudet ATVUn toteuttamiseen ovat jatkuva kiire ja vanho-jen työtapojen muuttamisen vaikeus. In this Bachelor’s Thesis I research what changes the areal news (ATVU for short in Finnish) reformation in early February 2011 brought about in Yle Oulu and Northern Finland news. Yle Oulu produces the news and I conducted my practical training in Yle Oulu. At the same time I also study how the reformation has been implemented in Yle Oulu editing office. The knowledge base for this Thesis consists of four parts: semi-structured theme in-terviews, literature, studying by doing and ethnographic participating observation. When I was doing my practical training, I saw how reporters worked and because of that I can compare their ways of working with ATVU aims. By the comments that Northern Finland news reporters gave me when I interviewed them, I received in-formation of their own opinions and experiences about how ATVU has been imple-mented in Yle Oulu. By drawing on literature, I discuss the subject matter and its terms. I also explore ATVU by the work that I did for Northern Finland news during my practical training. The concept of the ATVU 2011 reformation does not only streamline the look of the news studio but it goes deeper and shapes reporters ways of working. ATVU has given new instructions for example for filming, how to use voices in news stories, structure of telegrams, interviews and to the show up of the news anchor. Yle head office in Pasila, Helsinki monitors if Yle Oulu editing office implements appropriate-ly the elements of the reformation in Northern Finland news. I found out in my Thesis that the ATVU 2011 reformation has not been fully imple-mented by Yle Oulu. Many of the elements of the reformation are experienced point-less or they are believed to make news more difficult to understand. Some of the new elements have been tested but left to background after the first enthusiasm. Many of the new demands have been forgotten and some of my interviewees heard of them for first time from me. However, the ATVU 2011 reformation has not failed totally in Northern Finland news. Reporters have tested many of the new elements and the best parts of them have become part of their working practices. Yle Oulu reporters admit that the ATVU reformation aims to better news expression and therefore try to meet its requirements. In my opinion the main difficulties in fulfilling ATVU are the continuous haste and challenges of changing the old working habits.
