Diabetes ja erityisesti tyypin 2 diabetes on kasvamassa oleva kansansairaus Suomessa ja maailmalla. Diabetekseen liittyy vahvasti erilaisia komplikaatioita, jotka voidaan jakaa kroonisiin ja akuutteihin komplikaatioihin. Tässä opinnäytetyössä käsitellään diabeteksen akuuteista komplikaatioista ketoasidoosia ja hypoglykemiaa. Opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena on lisätä ammattikorkeakouluopiskelijoiden tietoa diabeettisen ketoasidoosin ja hypoglykemian oireista. Opinnäytetyön tehtävänä oli tuottaa juliste diabeettisen ketoasidoosin ja hypoglykemian oireista Pohjois-Karjalan ammattikorkeakoulun opiskeluterveydenhuollon käyttöön. Opinnäytetyön toteutustapa oli toiminnallinen. Aineistoa diabeteksen akuuteista komplikaatioista ja julisteen teosta hankittiin ajankohtaista kirjallisuutta ja Internetiä hyödyntäen. Julisteen sisältö eli komplikaatioiden oireet koottiin opinnäytetyön raportin teoriapohjan perusteella. Julisteen ulkoasu, sisältö ja suunnittelu toteutettiin omatoimisesti. Julistetta arvioitiin ja muokattiin Pohjois-Karjalan ammattikorkeakoulun opiskelijoiden antaman palautteen pohjalta. Juliste toteutettiin Pohjois-Karjalan ammattikorkeakoulun opiskeluterveydenhuollolle sähköisessä muodossa. Pohjois-Karjalan ammattikorkeakoulun opiskelijoiden antaman palautteen mukaan juliste oli selkeä ja ulkoasu miellyttävä. Julisteen käsitteisiin opiskelijat kaipasivat selityksiä, jotta juliste olisi paremmin ymmärrettävä. Opinnäytetyön toimeksiantajan yhteyshenkilönä toimi Pohjois-Karjalan ammattikorkeakoulun opiskeluterveydenhoitaja. Julistetta voidaan hyödyntää myös muihin oppilaitoksiin ja erilaisiin odotustiloihin. Yleisesti opinnäytetyötä voidaan hyödyntää opiskelijoiden terveystietämyksen lisäämisessä. Opinnäytetyön jatkotutkimuksena voisi olla tutkimus Pohjois-Karjalan ammattikorkeakoulun opiskelijoiden tiedoista liittyen diabeteksen akuuttien komplikaatioiden oireisiin. Diabetes and especially type 2 diabetes is an increasing public health problem in Finland and in the world. Diabetes is strongly associated with different kinds of complications that can be divided into chronic complications and acute complications. Diabetic ketoacidosis and hypoglycemia are discussed in this thesis. The purpose of the thesis is to increase students’ knowledge about the symptoms of ketoacidosis and hypoglycemia in universities of applied sciences. The task of the thesis was to make a poster about the symptoms of ketoacidosis and hypoglycemia for the student health care of North Karelia University of Applied Sciences. The thesis was practice–based. The material of the acute complications of diabetes and the literature for making the poster were collected using topical literature and the internet. The content of the poster about the symptoms of the complications was collected using the report of the thesis. The layout, content and designing of the poster was done by us. The poster was evaluated and edited using the feedback given by the students of North Karelia University of Applied Sciences. The poster was done with computer and was sent to the student health care in electronic form. According to the students of North Karelia University of Applied Sciences the poster was clear and the layout was pleasing. The students wanted to have explanations for the medical terms in the poster so that the poster would be easier to understand. The contact person of the commis-sioner of this thesis was the public health nurse of North Karelia University of Applied Sciences. The poster can be utilized also in other educational institutions and it can be placed in different kinds of places. In general the thesis can be utilized when increasing students’ knowledge about health. A follow up research for our thesis could be a research about the amount of knowledge students have about the acute complications of diabetes.
