Summary: | Antarctic sea ice dynamics and its interaction with the Southern Ocean plays a critical role in shaping the climate in the Southern Hemisphere and hence in Australia. It is gaining momentum among the international community and is one of the top priorities identified by the Australian Antarctic Science Program. This thesis experimentally addresses the response of Antarctic sea ice to sea states of different characteristics, with emphasis on the wave-induced breakup, sea ice drift, and rafting. The findings and results are key aspects to improve contemporary sea ice and climate models.
