In this study, the aim was to obtain a better understanding of which factors mainly contribute to greater life satisfaction among Icelandic retirees. The topic has been researched to some extent, but there is little to no research on the subject in Iceland. Data was collected via an online survey, and life satisfaction was measured with the Life Satisfaction Index for the Third Age Scale – Short Form. A total of 131 retired Icelandic citizens participated in the study. Spearman‘s Rho correlation was calculated between life satisfaction and the test variables. A multiple regression analysis was then conducted (F(8, 122) = 40.35, p <.001) to examine further the test variables that correlated significantly with life satisfaction. Results from a follow-up regression analysis (F(3, 127) = 104.1, p <.001) showed that happiness had the strongest relationship with life satisfaction (β=.68, p=<.001), followed by stress (β=.17, p=.001) and participation in social activities (β=.14, p=.02). It was concluded that happiness, stress, and participation in social activities were the main contributing factors to life satisfaction among Icelandic retirees.
