Summary: | This paper is part of a final project towards a Master of Arts in Applied Studies in Cultural Communications at the University of Iceland. The applied portion of the project consisted in the administration of a Scriptorium, a time and a place for young people to practice calligraphy, deep reading and drawing. This practice is designed as a response to strengthen literacy against its decline in the age of interactive electronic media. The paper is divided into two parts, and is accompanied in parallel by a practical handbook. Part A deals with the theoretical approach to the Scriptorium, a reaction to the literate-interactive media crisis, navigated using the horizon of the oral-literate crisis. Part B deals with the implementation of the Scriptorium based on the theoretical conclusions of Part A: a plan for implementation; an account of the application of the plan; an assessment of results; and a projection of future prospects. The handbook summarizes the theoretical approach of Part A and the organizational conclusions of Part B to provide a map for the implementation of future Scriptoria. Samband íslenskra sveitafélaga
