Deep learning approach to detect bones in fish fillets

Furthermore, the chain has become increasingly automated, with robots now doing jobs once held by humans. For the robots to maximize the utilization of the material, it is important that parts of the fish that need to be removed, such as bones, can be detected as accurately as possible. In this thesis, which is done in collaboration with Valka ehf, we use state-of-the-art technology based on deep convolutional neural networks to detect fish bones with high accuracy, outperforming other more traditional image processing methods currently in use. This allows for the fish bones to be reliably removed using state-of-the-art automatic water-cut robots. Thesis Iceland Skemman (Iceland) |
