Jökullinn Ok telst þó ekki lengur í tölu jökla á Íslandi í dag en það hefur eins og aðrir jöklar verið að bráðna á síðustu árum. Jöklar eru einstaklega næmir fyrir loftlagsbreytingum og í þessarri rannsókn verður skoðuð tenging milli sumarhita á Íslandi og flatarmálsbreytinga Oks. Skoðaðar voru 12 loftmyndir af Oki til að meta flatarmálsbreytinar á milli ára á tímabili sem spannaði tímabilið 1956-2013. Hitagögn voru skoðuð yfir tímabilið 1956-2016. Alls voru gögn frá fimm veðurstöðvum skoðuð og kom í ljós að staðsetning veðurstöðvanna er ekki svo mikilvæg. Allar veðurstöðvarnar sýndu svipað hitafar þannig að hjá hverri stöð voru sömu árin köldust og sömu árin hlýjust. Við samanburð hitagagna og flatarmálsgagna kom í ljós að Ok er ekki ólíkur öðrum jöklum á Íslandi. Okið minnkar hraðar eftir því sem hitastig er hærra. Ok is a glacier in the western part of Iceland, west of the glacier Langjökull. However, Ok is not considered to be a glacier anymore and is now considered as a dead ice. Glaciers are very sensitive to climate fluctuations and glaciers in Iceland have been mealting for the last years. The aim of this study is to see the relationship between average summer temperature and changes in the area cover of the glacier. 12 aerial photographs were investigated with the purpose of estimating the change in the size of the glacier Ok, from the period between 1956-2013. Temperature data was looked at for that same period to check if there was any corilation between the size of the glacier and the temperature. In order to get temperature data for the period, data from five weatherstations were investigated. All data points to a strong correlative trend between average summer temperature and changes in the area cover of the Ok glacier. The glacier retreated during the time periods when the average summer temperature was high, while it advanced during colder periods. During the ...
