Síminn, the leading Telecommunication company in Iceland, has since its privatisation implementated several different software solutions to improve its operations and profitabilty to increase its competitiveness . This study is only on the largest implementation on out of the box software solutions. It was apparent that lessons learned from these projects were scarce. The aim of this research is to to shed light on how these projects were managed in regards to risk. The result of the research is that for most parts risk management was informal and relatively little time was invested in risk management activities. When comparing the risk management to the process in PMBOk it is apparent that very few activities are conducted in Síminn projects and it seems like there are great opportunites to improve risk management in future projects. Síminn hefur,síðan fyrirtækinu var breytt úr ríkisstofnun í hlutafélag, innleitt nokkur stór hugbúnaðarkerfi til þess að auka arðsemi og samkeppnishæfni. Þessi rannsókn er gerð á stærstu innleiðingarverkefnum Símans á tilbúnum hugbúnaðarlausnum. Það er augljóst að „lessons learned“ skilaði sér ekki til annarra verkefna fyrirtækisins nema þá í litlum mæli. Tilgangur verkefnisins er að varpa ljósi á hvernig staðið hefur verið að stýringu áhættu í þessum innleiðingarverkefnum. Niðurstaða verkefnisins er sú að almennt hefur áhættustýring verið frekar óformleg og litlum tíma hefur verið varið í áhættustjórnun. Þegar áhættustýring verkefna hjá Símanum eru borin saman við þá aðferðafræði PMBOK sést að aðeins fá af atriðum þeirrar aðferðafræði eru notuð við að stýra áhættu i viðkomandi verkefnum. Þess vegna geta verið tækifæri fyrir fyrirtækið í að efla áhættustýringu því til framdráttar í framtíðarverkefnum.
