It includes : (1) the castaways of the Shinsho Maru from Ise, who returned home in 1792 accompanied by Adam Laksman, (2) the castaways of the Wakamiya Maru from Sendai, who returned home in 1804 accompanied by Nikolai Rezanov, (3) the castaways of the Keisho Maru from Nambu, who returned home in 1807,(4) those detained in Sakhalin Island and in Etorofu Island, who returned home in 1807,(5) the castaways of the Kanki Maru from Settsu and Goroji detained in Etorofu Island, who returned home in 1812 accompanied by Piotr Rikord, (6) those crew of the Takadaya Kanze Maru, who returned home in 1813 accompanied by Rikord, (7) Kyuzo, a sailor of the Kanki Maru from Settsu, who returned in 1813 accompanied by Rikord, (8) the castaways of the Eiju Maru from Satsuma and of the Tokujo Maru from Owari, who returned home in 1816,(9) the castaways from Hayakawa Village, Echigo, who returned home in 1836,(10) the castaways of the Choja Maru from Ettchu, who returned home in 1848,and (11) the castaways of the Tenju Maru from Kii, who returned home in 1852. This study especially clarifies the circumstances of the home-coming of these castaways and detainees. These accounts will be useful for the comprehension of the history of Japan prior to the opening of the country. At the end of this study, the Table of the Japanese castaways and detainees who returned from Russia during the Edo Period is offered.
