Description
Summary:Climate change that is affecting the Arctic more significantly than the rest of the world brings new important opportunities for the Northern Sea Route. If the latter has been the subject of extensive research and expeditions since the 16th century and largely served as national route for the Soviet Union, its usage for international navigation becomes real nowadays. Its development can serve as a major alternative to the traditional channels of shipping through the Suez Canal and the Panama one thanks to the modern evolutions such as the melting ice, the growing exploitation of Arctic energy resources as well as the energy needs of Asian countries with China at the forefront.
