Summary: | The depletion of the solar beam in northern Jordan is investigated during the two summer periods of 1990 and 1991. This paper discusses the effect of atmospheric constituents on the solar beam with the emphasis on the effect of aerosol optical depth. It is shown that aerosol optical depth at JUST varied between 0.22 and 0.23 for only 21% of collected data. These values are relatively low compared with values obtained in Kuwait in 1985. The values of aerosol optical depth for the rest of the time are in the range of aerosol optical depth obtained in the Canadian arctic. |
